Ansa, the author of Ugly Ways, Baby of the Family, The Hand I Fan With, and Taking After Mudear, will be signing and selling her books.
The library booth also will feature “Geek the Library” materials, gently used books for $1, free children’s books, and more. We hope to see you there!

Sapelo teachers honored at special program
On a clear September morning, retired teachers made their way to Sapelo Island, to be honored by their former students and the Hog Hammock Community, at a special program presented by the library.
Sapelo’s last public school closed in the late 1970s, ending a history of education on the island going back to the days following the end of slavery. Sapelo teachers lived on the island during the week, leaving behind their families. Yet, during the library program, many shared stories of how they were welcomed and loved by Sapelo’s people, who did their share of teaching about life on a barrier island.
The library program included a candle-lighting in remembrance of teachers and students who have passed on, a solo by Albertha Banks, prayer by Rev. Dr. Carolyn Dowse, book dedications in honor of each teacher and a Low Country Boil picnic outside the Community Center, where the program was held.
Thank you to everyone who helped to make this program a success!
